Master of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential Program (MAT) |
The MAT program prepares students to enter the teaching profession, and pursue careers as teachers in a variety of settings and educational levels. The curriculum reflects the Rossier School’s focus on strengthening urban education, and includes supervised field experiences throughout the course of study. Students can complete a teaching credential and Master’s degree in approximately thirteen months of full-time study. The program is offered in two delivery formats: On-campus and online, a hybrid of online instruction and on-the-ground field experience at a school in a student’s local area. |
Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MAT-TESOL) |
The MAT-TESOL prepares students to enter the teaching profession and pursue careers as English language teaching specialists in a variety of settings and educational levels. The curriculum is designed to prepare domestic and international candidates planning to work with children, youth, or adults, either in the U.S. or abroad. The MAT-TESOL is offered in both on-campus and online delivery formats. Students will be able complete the MAT-TESOL degree in just over one year of full-time study. |
Master in Arts in Teaching Capstone (MAT Capstone) |
The Master of Arts in Teaching is designed for individuals who wish to strengthen their ability to facilitate learning for all students in a variety of educational settings. Candidates complete all coursework required for the MAT credential option, with the exception of Guided Practice. In place of the practicum, Candidates complete the “Capstone” course, which is comprised of an action research project in Capstone A and developing a professional development plan, from the action research project, in Capstone B. This non-credential option requires a minimum of 30 units. |
Educational Psychology (Ed.D.) |
One of four Ed.D. concentration areas, Educational Psychology is designed for professionals in K-12, higher education, and business, military, and government organizations who seek to improve the motivation, achievement, performance, and retention of diverse learners. |
Master in Arts in Teaching-Certificate in Gifted Studies |
GATE Certificate is designed to help candidates develop the specialized knowledge and skills needed to recognize and respond to individual differences among gifted and talents students by addressing varying needs, interests and abilities of all students. The certificate requires successful completion of an additional 12-units that includes two additional 3-unit electives. Guided Practice will be tailored to address the needs of the gifted and talented students. |
Master of Education, Advanced Instruction |
The Master of Education in Advanced Instruction provides experienced Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers with the opportunity to learn advanced research and effective teaching methods in a given content area. |
Master of Education, School Counseling – Pupil Personnel Services Credential(approved, inactive) |
The Master of Education in School Counseling is a clinical training program that prepares candidates to become school counselors in grades pre-K through 12. Completion of courses allows graduates for a clear California Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS). |
Master of Education in School Leadership |
Prepares experienced teachers, counselors, and other educational professionals for entry into administrative and leadership roles. Upon completion of this online program, graduates will be equipped with the conceptual, organizational, political, and leadership skills needed to assume administrative positions of significant responsibility in schools and have a substantive impact on how they operate. These positions include school principals and heads, curriculum coordinators, deans, and lead teachers. |
Master of Social Work, Pupil Personnel Services |
This program conducted through the USC School of Social Work qualifies Candidates for the pupil personnel services (PPS) credential. It is part of a 63-unit graduate social work program culminating in a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. In either concentration, students may elect a sub-concentration to receive both the School Social Work and the Child Welfare and Attendance credentials. |
